Kar Hung Antony Tam

UNESCO Iraq Head of Education

Mr. Kar Hung Antony Tam, a Chinese national, is currently the Chief of Education of UNESCO Office in Iraq. Prior to his current role, he was the Officer-in-Charge of UNESCO Office in Pakistan. Previously, he was the Chief of Education of UNESCO Office in Afghanistan and Senior Project Officer of UNESCO Myanmar Project Office leading teacher education reform and Information and Communications Technology (ICT) in education programmes. He was once with UNESCO Regional Office in Asia and the Pacific contributing to the education 2030 agenda

development in the region. Before joining UNESCO, he was an Assistant Secretary of the Government of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China in handling policy formulation, legislation, and public consultation.


Antony holds a master’s degree in international comparative education from Stanford University, a master’s degree in sociology and education from Teachers College, Columbia University, a postgraduate diploma in education and a bachelor’s degree in journalism and communication from The Chinese University of Hong Kong.
